Preview: Olympic Track & Field Athletics (3 August)

02nd August 2012
One of the most popular and talked about of all the Olympic sports is Athletics. Given the sheer number of athletes and events we will stick to the British athletes and just a few of the star names from the rest of the world.

Women’s Heptathlon
Britain’s Golden girl Jessica Ennis begins her bid for glory, the hurdles start the action on day one (10.05am). Also watch out for fellow Brits Louise Hazel and Katarina Johnson-Thompson. The High Jump is also in the morning session, with the Shot Put and 200 metres in the evening.
Prediction: Gold for Ennis, top 12 for Hazel.

Women's 10,000m
Britain's hopes lie with Jo Pavey (pictured right) and Julia Bleasdale – a top 10 placing is possible for either. Also watch out for Ireland’s Fionnuala Britton.
Prediction: An Ethiopian 1-2-3 with Tirunesh Dibaba the winner. Pavey and Bleasdale between 5th and 10th
