Dani King/National Women’s Circuit Road Race Championship (21/06/09)


Over 100 riders were at Colne Valley High School for round 3 in the 10 race Paul Milnes Summer Cyclo Cross series. Mark Thwaites (Crosstrax) taking the win from Matthew Denby (Zepnat RT) and Neal Crampton (Crosstrax), with Julie Barratt (Ride On) the ladies winner.

Huddersfield Star Wheelers held their annual Road Race on Sunday, 7th June, which has been, renamed the 'Eric Biddulph Memorial Road Race' this year in honour of Eric Biddulph. Mark Buckingham (Huddersfield Star Wheelers), rode aggressively throughout, dropping his breakaway companion and fellow local Ben Kellett (Holme Valley Wheelers) on the final lap to take his first win of the year. Not content with one win, he followed it up 3 weeks later when he rode away from the field to win the Summer Wine Road Race.

June also saw the return of the Wharmton Dash fell race promoted by Saddleworth Runners as part of the Saddleworth Show, with Ryan Gould (East Cheshire) and Sarah Yeomans (Rossendale) emerging first from the river.

Andrew Pearson (Longwood) ran out a comfortable winner ahead of Matthew Pierson and Richard Smith (both Holmfirth) in the Joe Percy 10K promoted by Longwood Harriers. Julia Johnson (Holmfirth) took the prize for first Lady and Halifax the main prize of the night for first team.

Horwich Carnival saw a full day of sporting action on closed roads. Dani King (Vision 1 racing) took the National Women’s Circuit Road Race Championship in a sprint finish; Scott Thwaites won the supporting men’s race, James Goddard the Handcycling event. Antony Ford (Blackpool Wyre & Fylde) got the better of Andi Jones (Salford Harriers) in the 5K road race, with Tara Krzywicki (Charnwood AC) the women’s winner.
