Matt Clinton/Huddersfield Star Wheelers Hill Climb (10/10/09)

Riders in the Tour of the Pennines not only had to contend with a tough route, but also gale forces winds that blasted the area. Despite the terrible conditions many still finished the course, and a few even managed to enjoy it.

With the Hill Climb season in full swing, many riders rode both the Holme Valley Wheelers event in the morning on Holme Moss and the Huddersfield Star Wheelers event in the afternoon a few miles away. Daniel Shand (West Pennine RC) put an end to Matt Clintons (Mike Vaughan Cycles) undefeated run with a win on Holme Moss. Clinton bounced back in the afternoon to reverse the positions and also picked up the combined prize for the fastest rider in both events.

Huddersfield Stadium Runners once again held their Woodland Challenge event (voted 7th best race in 2008 by Runnersworld Magazine) and kids support race – the FruityPot fun run. Dr Ron Hill was on hand to start the sell out event, as well as present the prizes (he even found the time to run in it as well).

With the clocks changing it can only mean one thing, the Holmfirth 15 (Incorporating the Yorkshire County and Yorkshire Veterans AA 15 Mile Road Race Championships). Stewart MacDonald (Bingley) ran out a clear winner from regular top three finisher Julian Mawson (Otley Ac) and David Thompson (Barnsley AC). Christine Howard (Matlock AC) took the ladies race from local Bridget Coomber (Denby Dale), with Jackie Redmayne (Chorley Harriers) third.
