Santa gets in shape for a return to work/SYCCL(13/12/09)

Tanky's Trog is one of the classic endurance events of the Peak District. It is a race which goes from Marsden to Edale, taking in Black Hill, Bleaklow and Kinder on the way. Adam Perry won in 3 hours 15 minutes from Pennine teammate Daren Holloway, with Karen Davidson (Dark Peak) the ladies winner.

This years North of England Cyclo Cross Championships were held at Thornes Park, Wakefield. Using a different (more interesting part of the park than the running does) riders faced wooded areas, along with water logged fields meaning a good support crew was essential as riders were having to change bikes every lap or two. Paul Oldham took the senior men's title and Adela Carter continued her great run this season by taking the women's race. Tom Moses underlined his recent good form with a fine win in the junior race and his brother Joseph made it a family double with a win in the Youth race. Meanwhile, Chris Young was the winner of the Veterans' event.

The final race in the South Yorkshire Cross Country League was held at Penistone Showground. Darren Middleton (Barnsley AC) and Julia Russell (Hallamshire Harriers) were the winners in the Senior races.

Runners in the Denby Dale Travellers 6 were hit by a sudden snowstorm in the closing miles, with only the quicker athletes avoiding it. David Thompson (Barnsley AC), Kev Lilley (Sheffield RC) and Andy Whitworth (Meltham) filled to top three places, with Julie Buckley (Penistone FR) the ladies winner.
