March

Trafford 10K (26/04/09)
March began with the Ian Roberts fell race promoted by Holmfirth Harriers from Marsden, Huddersfield. Runners were hit with snow and hail as they started, with some of the later finishers running though a near blizzard. Steve Roebuck (Penistone) just managed to pip the promoting clubs Bill Stewart, with Helen Berry (Holmfirth) taking the Ladies title for the 3rd year in a row.
By mid March and the Trafford 10K the sun had finally returned from its winter hibernation allowing runners the chance of a PB in the race promoted by Altrincham Athletic Club. Mark Miles (Belgrave Harriers) time of 29:25 was enough to see off Andi Jones (Salford) and Jonathan Wills (Bristol & West). Michelle Ross-Cope (City Of Stoke AC ) took the Ladies race from Rebecca Robinson (Kendal Amateur Athletic Club) who’s 2nd place was all the more remarkable given she was one of the fallers at the start.
Round two of the ten race YVAA Grand Prix series was held at Meltham. Karen Pickles (Pudsey Pacers) dominated the ladies race, with local Dave Watson winning the Men event.
The Epilepsy Action Bradford 10K saw nearly 1000 runners line up in Centenary Square. Willy Smith (Keighley and Craven A.C) managed to pull away from Ian Holmes in the closing stages to win in 31:26, with Helen Glover (Keighley and Craven A.C) the women’s winner.
As the clocks change and the evenings get longer it can only mean one thing – Trunce time. The Trunce races are held during the summer months. The main features of the races are the 3 river crossings (popular with runners and spectators alike), great fun for runners of all ages.
