Wakefield Hospice 10k Road Race

Nearly 1200 runners took the start of the Wakefield Hospice 10K on a cool Sunday morning. With a strong headwind on the way out, time were some what slower than would have been expected, but Mark Warmby (Newham & Essex Beagles) was happy with the win none the less. Helen Singleton (Wakefield Harriers) was the women's race winner.

Thousands of junior athletes supporters descended on Heaton Park, Manchester for the ESAA Cross Country Championships. With rain falling throughout the event, it quickly became a test of stamina as runners battled though heavy mud.

Trafford 10K
07th March 2010
Chris Thompson (Aldershot Farnham & District) made the most of the rearranged Trafford 10K (due to the heavy snow that fell hours before the original event was due to be held). With good conditions and a fast course, he ran an impressive 28 minutes 01 second.

Huddersfield 10K

Glen Comish (Sale Harriers) dominated the Huddersfield 10K, going clear with Dave Watson (Holmfirth), the two had already opened up a sizable gap on the rest of the field within the first mile. By the end Comish had nearly two minutes in had on Watson who held on for 2nd. Julie Buckley (Penistone Footpath Runners) took the Ladies race.

Saucony English National Cross Country Championships

Roundhay Park, Leeds played host to the 2010 National Cross Country Championships. An event enjoyed by everyone, despite the heavy mud in places (well, it wouldn't be cross country otherwise would it it!). Andy Vernon & Stephanie Twell (both Aldershot Farnham & District AC) ran out convincing winners in the senior events.

Yorkshire & Humberside Cross Country Championships
20th February 2010
With county titles and places in the Yorkshire team for the Inter Counties on offer, runners were raring to go on the parkland course at Wakefield. In the women’s race Sue Partridge (Leeds AC) and Victoria Wilkinson (Bingley Harriers) battled hard throughout the race, before Wilkinson managed to pull away in the closing stages to win. Again in the Men's race two runners battled it out for the honour of becoming county champion. In a repeat of the West Yorkshire XC League fixture held here in December, Andrew Pearson (Longwood Harriers) and Mark Buckingham (Holmfirth Harriers) hit the front from the gun. However this time it was Buckingham who took the honours.

Dewsbury 10K

Over 800 runners took the start of the Dewsbury 10K race on Sunday where they met cold, overcast conditions for the 9 am start. Whilst many where hoping for PB’s on the flat fast course, a select few were chasing the £400 on offer for the first male and female finishers, thanks to the very generous sponsorship of Disken & Co. Solicitors.

Brass Monkey Half Marathon
24th January 2010
Over 1500 runners took to the start of the Brass Monkey Half Marathon promoted by Knavesmire Harriers.

Matthew Pierson (Holmfirth Harriers AC/Brooks) returned from 3 weeks warm weather training in Kenya to break the course record. His time of 65 mins 35 secs gave him a winning margin of over 7 minutes on second place runner Phil Coulson (Chester le Street), with Phil Taylor (Bridlington Road Runners) third, a further 5 seconds down.

In the Ladies race Becky Penty (York Acorn) and Josie Hodgetts (Otley AC) went though 7 miles together neck and neck before Penty pulled away to win in 1:18:37.

Over 200 runners and walkers turned out for the Race 4 A Laugh 5K on News Years Day, raising money for the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust.
